Electric Fencing Tape

An electric fencing tape for fences are easy to install, and can be very helpful. It can help you, as an owner, to keep your pets within bounds. Also, it can shoo away unwanted animals, or pests. These fences are not only for your animals, but also for your vegetation. You can move the fencing tape around to change grazing areas for your livestock. It is not hard to change locations since the posts are light, and easy to remove and install. For visibility purposes for you and your animals, use a reflective electric tape, similar to the one in Pet Safe electric fence.

The following are the things that you will need to set up that electric fence tape:

  • Fiberglass posts
  • Post driver cap
  • Insulators and fasteners
  • Electric charger
  • Tape measure
  • T-post
  • Gate
  • Hammer
  • Ground rod

First off, you have to measure the area that you will use as a fence. Identify the number of rows that you will need. If you decide that you want an area that measures 40 by 40 feet and with three rows, then you will need 960 feet of electric fencing tape.

Once you have determined the area, make lines on the ground to signify the boundary, or you can use a string as a temporary fence line. Remove all tall grasses and weeds that are on the boundary lines for your electric fence ground. Mount a metal T-post in each corner of all four corners, and place a post cap on top of each. Make sure that the posts are sturdy and stable by using a large hammer to pound it to the ground. Choose a location for the gate, and install a T-post around it, too, basing from the width of the gate.

  • Mount fiberglass posts along the fence lines at a regular interval. These posts must be between the T-posts. Just like with the metal T-posts, put a post cap on top of them, and steer them to the ground. These caps protect the posts from being damaged from the continuous striking of the hammer.
  • Next up, install the insulators. There should be one insulator in ever post for every row of fence tape. Bind the insulators to the posts, using non- conductive materials, like wire ties. Make sure that the fasteners that you use are the ones that are particularly recommended for your insulators.
  • Weave the electric tape and the insulators through each other. Make sure that you begin and end at the gate posts. Other insulators have fasteners already that easily connect to the tape. You can check the manual for this. The tape, which is threaded through the insulators, has to be straight and level. However, it should not be too tight.

Mount the gate. First, put up the gate hinges, and then hang the gate. The gate may or may not be electrified. To make sure that your animals will still be prevented from escaping even with the absence of electrification, the gate must be tall and sturdy. If you have a garden instead, the gate must be useful in keeping the animals out.

The installation for the ground rod is optional, only when required by the electric fence battery manufacturer. If it is mandatory, the manufacturer is sure to recommend the length and depth of the ground rod. Using cable clamps, you can attach the ground wire from the charger all the way to ground rod. Then, fasten the fence charger directs to each chain of electric fencing tape. Plug the electric cord to the electric outlet, and activate the charger.
